The Book of Esther
The women of RSCC have been studying the Book of Esther. God is helping us to see this woman and how God was able to use her life to save a nation. What did she possess that made such an impossible-seeming task possible and what can we learn for our own lives? This is what we have beeen discussing in our Women's Prayer Circle on Sunday mornings. If you'd like to listen in, please send us a note via our Contact Us Page and we will send the information to you. God bless you!
But my king, don’t worry; I have an idea! With your permission, of course, I recommend that a decree be issued among the Persians and the Medes, a law which cannot be repealed, that forbids Vashti from ever being allowed in your presence again. In fact, I would further suggest that you give her position to another woman, someone who is more honorable than she is.
Esther 1:19 The VOICE
Esther was the daughter of Abihail who in turn was the uncle of Mordecai. When it was time for Esther, whom Mordecai had adopted, to go in to the king, she didn’t ask for anything special. She took only what Hegai suggested. Since he was the king’s eunuch in charge of the women, he would know what was best. Now Esther had some special qualities, and all who met her favored her.
Esther 2:15 The VOICE
What Do You Have?
Prospering in God Part I
"Ask Me to show you how to prosper from where you are with what you have." These words have changed my life forever and for the better.
To prosper means to advance, to suceed, to be profitable, push forward, break out, come forth mightily, to go over or through! Yes, this is what I wanted! But, prior to hearing these words from the LORD, I was always pursuing or looking for something outside of me in order to prosper.
"I should do this, go here, get this..." " If I only had..." There can be this never-ending pursuit or pressure to go and get something. Something to make your life better. More education, more money, another job, a man, a "ministry",another word from the LORD, something.
In asking the LORD to show me how to prosper from where I was with what I had, I had to face the fact that I was nowhere and had nothing.
I had gotten older, but what had I accomplished? And furthermore, how were the things I had accomplished helping me? Why was I unhappy? Why was I broke? Sure, I could change things and persue something different, persue my dreams even, but that would require two things-money and time. Problem was, if I took the time, I'd have no money and if I got the money I would have no time.
So, there I was, ready to go back into the loop, around that circle again- looking for a better job, a check in the mail, a miracle, a word, something!
The LORD showed me that change would happen for me from the inside out and not the outside in. If I would trust Him and cooperate with Him and let Him work IN me, then everything would change in my life on the outside.
He has shown me that things I did in obedience to Him over the years were not a waste of time, for he was, and is, developing me.
I had to learn that with God, things are more likely to grow than suddenly appear. I learned to be patient with Him and with myself, knowing that I was not running out of time. For he could take me in one day where I couldn't have gotten in 40-plus years on my own.
I had to do what a dear friend told me to do, "Don't fight the process." For me, this meant getting over the fear of failure and realizing that living by faith doesn't mean I'd never go through anything uncomfortable. Now I know that I can't "faith away" things that I'll have to trust God through.
You, know I couldn't find anybody in the Bible that God prospered who didn't go through something, who didn't seem to suffer loss. No one just floated into prosperity. It seems to me the higher they went and the more prosperous they were, the lower they went first.
Prosperity is God's idea, not mine, not yours, so you can trust Him and let Him lead you. Prosperity will look different for each one of us, but He will be glorified and you will do well.
So, I ask you as the prophet Elisha asked the the woman who was in debt, whose sons were about to be taken into bondage by creditors: "What do you have in the house?" In her estimation all she had was a pot of oil. Oh, but she had so much more! On the inside of her she had what it took to prosper!
Very importantly, she had a heart to obey. She obeyed a simple (but uncomfortable and inconvenient) command from someone who could help her. (I wonder if she thought as I might have,"What good is this gonna do?")
What did it take for her to do obey? Faith? Yes. But how about courage, the ability to persist in the face of apparent failure and loss, the ability to remain in an uncomfortable situation instead of running away? She had cultivated a relationship with her sons over the years so that they would do what she asked, the kind of relationship with her neighbors so that they would lend to her, the wisdom to know when to be quiet and when to speak, the wisdom to know who, when and how to ask for help and who, when and how to keep people out of her personal affairs, the willingness to follow instructions from someone in authority in her life and so on.
I believe that she didn't just wake up one day with the all of the wisdom, maturity and humility that it took to rise from where she was. No, my dear, what she had on the inside takes years to develop. And there were probably days when she struggled and felt like a failure. So, don't be discouraged if it seems as if you're still working on things that at first glance seem to be simple and small. The day will come that the "process" will begin to make sense and what you have on the inside will become very apparent and very important.
You, dear woman, are valuable; you were made by God on purpose, with purpose. You are a masterpiece, an original! There is treasure inside of you waiting to be revealed!
You don't have to look anymore for someone or something outside of you in order to have a prosperous life. You can prosper from where you are with what you have! I'll talk about this more in the days to come.
With Love,
Jameria
P.S. Here are some scripture references for you to read. Also, please pray that God will show you what's on the inside of you and how He wants to develop it.
